Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the retreat?

The walk goes for six days and five nights. We will stay at The Sebel Launceston the night before where we’ll also have a meet and greet that evening.

Do I have to pay it all upfront?

No. To secure your spot you only need to put down a $1,100 non-refundable deposit upon booking. The remaining balance will be due 60 days out from the retreat.

What is included in the price?

The price includes six nights accommodation (night before and five nights on the walk), meals, equipment (50-litre pack with cover and liner along with a Gore-tex rain jacket and sleeping bag with inner sheet and pillowcase), National Parks pass, Overland Track Pass, transfers to Cradle Valley and return from Lake St Clair including the ferry transfer.

You will also be closely mentored and coached by seasoned adventurer Bec Fox for the three months leading up to the walk. Through this time you will receive a one-hour one-on-one professional coaching session, vital advice, support, training plans, mindset coaching and loads of motivation, so you are fully prepared to enjoy the adventure at your ultimate peak performance. Access to a private Facebook group will be given for greater support before and to stay in touch with other walkers.

What isn’t included?

Flights and transport to The Sebel Launceston are not included in the booking fee. Should you wish to stay the seventh night after the completion of the six-day walk, this will also be at your own expense.

What can I expect?

We will meet at The Sebel Launceston the night before the walk commences for a meet and greet. Don’t make it a late one though as you need to be refreshed and ready for the walk the next morning!

Each day, you will walk up to 12km/7 hours per day and explore the incredible World Heritage Area as we walk from one of the private Cradle Mountain huts to the next. Along the way, there will be opportunities to visit waterfalls, climb mountains and relax in rainforests.

At the end of the day, a hot shower and gas heater will await you in each cosy hut. In the afternoon and evening, you can relax in the lounge or enjoy the surrounding scenery, as the guides cook up afternoon tea, freshly baked bread and a delicious three-course dinner.

What level of fitness will be required?

A moderate level of fitness is required, as you will be walking up to 12kms/7 hours per day. If you regularly exercise, stick to the training plans, follow all advice and feel capable of walking this distance, you should be fine.

What is the venue like?

Discretely located off the main trail, each hut offers a hot shower, drying room and twin share accommodation. In the evening, you are free to relax or take an early night and feel refreshed and revived in the morning. There are games and a number of books in each hut, which can be enjoyed in the lounge area or, in warm weather, out on the deck.

All accommodation is twin share. If booking as a single walker or in an odd-numbered group and the trip fills to capacity, please note that you will share a room with another walker.

What will the food be like?

Incredible! As we will need to maintain energy and ensure peak performance you can be sure that there will be lots of clean eating including salad and veggies. But it won’t just be vegetarian; you’ll be able to get your dose of fish, chicken or red meat in an amazing three-course dinner that is served with Tasmanian wine.

Have special dietary requirements? Our professional chefs who also happen to be our guides can easily cater for any dietary requirement you may have (just let us know beforehand).

What gear do I need?

A 50-litre pack with cover and liner along with a Gore-tex rain jacket and sleeping bag with inner sheet and pillowcase will be supplied though there will be other gear you will need to make your walk safe and comfortable.

Lace-up hiking boots, with good ankle support and a treaded sole, are a must for this walk. We can’t over-emphasise the importance of appropriate footwear. Lower-profile hiking shoes, walking shoes, running shoes, approach shoes, sand shoes, elasticised boots and similar are not acceptable. Boots must be worn in to minimise the risk of blisters. The Overland Track is unique in the nature of its terrain, and you will be unable to commence the walk without the appropriate footwear.

You can check out the full Gear List to ensure you have all of the essential Items. Please, no cotton clothing and gaiters and over-pants are a must. Gaiters, over pants, headlamps and walking poles are available for hire please let us know if you will require this as we will need to book and pay no later than a week prior to departure of your walk.

There is secure storage at the Walkers Base for any excess luggage you may have.

Why the Tasmanian Overland Track?

Not only is it an incredible part of the world to explore with ancient pine forests, icy flowing waterfalls, native gardens, mountainous terrain, glacial valleys and beautiful wildlife, it also presents a challenge to work towards and gives you an amazing sense of achievement once completed.
